I’ve always agreed that it doesn’t matter if your backlink is from a .org, .net, .com, .gov or .edu. The domain extension doesn’t make it any more (or less) important than any other.

I’ve also mentioned in the past that any backlink with “nofollow” in it does not pass on any PR (page rank) value. No argument there.

However, don’t just ignore backlinks from “nofollow” sites. I’ve performed a test to prove my theory.

1. Registered brand new domain.
2. Created a website with DUPLICATE content.
3. Commented on 8 “nofollow” blogs a day for 3 days.
4. Did NOTHING else… including submitting to search engine, article marketing, anything. JUST the blog commenting.

3 days later, the website was indexed. I stopped posting blog comments and had received a total of 20 visitors.

If such a simple task still carries over some traffic, what makes you think getting backlinks from “nofollow” is a waste of time? Of course, it would be more beneficial to get the ‘do follow’ backlinks. Just try to be as natural as possible and not be too concerned whether a site is a do or not follow.

If it is possible you should always use relevant anchor text in your home pages instead of just using the plain old and very boring “HOME” link.

Home page is the most important page in your website, so it is fairly important that that this page has a good backlink from each and every page in your site. This is one good idea and an easy way to create a good internal link arrangements and this also makes the search engines easily indexed your website.

I already mentioned the benefits so I’m not got going to say it again. You really are missing out on all the potential keywords to rank for by not having a blog and I have to tell you, the majority of the company sites out there simply do not have a blog.

One social media marketing power I’d like to mention today is Twitter Feed. It’s a VERY easy to use program that allows you to feed your blog’s RSS and post it on Twitter automatically. In fact, you can allow it to post Twitter updates based on ANYONE’S RSS feed. That means you could build up your Twitter updates on autopilot leaving the extra few minutes a day to something else… like scratching your head or staring into deep space when no one is around.

This is especially helpful for folks who have a lot of niche products to promote and have multiple Twitter accounts to manage.

The signup process is fast and simple. In fact, I don’t think there was even a confirmation link. You just follow the step-by-step instruction and you’ll have Twitter updates filling up in no time. For now, I am having Twitter update my blog posts only, but if you want to be more advanced, here’s the next step:

1. Find a blog RSS related to your business/niche (between 2-3)
2. Fill out the Twitter Feed info
3. Using the advanced settings, change it to updating every 12 hours
4. Save the feed and then that’s it.

Although, it will be a good idea to share some personal posts once in a while to make it look like you’re a real person and not constantly promoting something. However, when you have these Twitter updates related to your industry and people are getting value out of it, they’ll want to listen to you more often.

If you want to add more blogg RSS for variation, make sure you have it updating every 24 hours because if you have too much, people may want to start removing you. Good luck and enjoy!

Keep an eye on keywords people are using to get to your site. A lot of times, they’re keywords you probably didn’t think of even targeting. When we check that list for our clients, we might find that there are some visits for a keyword that is not on the first page on Google (for example page 3 or 4).

What we do next, if the competition for that keyword is not that high, is to create a new entry at our client’s blog based on that keyword, so that it could rank higher. When the keyword is a bit competitive, we try to tweak some things inside the post, and we also improve their internal linking.

In both cases, we have managed to achieve even two listings on page 1, and obviously got a lot more traffic to our client’s website by doing this.

Get a domain name containing your keyword:

Putting aside all debates about whether domain name plays any direct role in the search ranking algorithm, there’s no denying the fact that most people link to the site using the domain name as the anchor text: TexasSEO is what most links to this blog will look like, and Google will most probably translate it as “Texas SEO”.

Of course, this method has the main disadvantage: most short meaningful domain names are already taken and it is too tough to find something worthy available.

Get the most out of your page title:

An extremely important aspect of the page title is that page title usually serves as the anchor text for the external links pointing to the page:

• Title is automatically picked up by social bookmarking services (and most users don’t care to change it).
• Title is what some people will use to link back to your post in their round-ups.
• Title is what many scrapers use to link back to the scraped page (and there’s some link juice there too).

So if you aren’t optimizing your page titles yet, you should probably start right now

Mind your online moniker

If you are just starting, consider creating some descriptive nickname containing your keyword. I.E. Texas SEO. People tend to link to another person’s articles using the author name and constructions like “According to…”, “… said”, “… found”, etc. So an alternative descriptive moniker might also help in your targeted link building.

Well, I need more.

First off, I am getting back into my business and updating my other websites. NetworkersDebut.com definitely needs some work and this blog needs a little more love.

Secondly, I am helping my wife with a new project that should bring in a substantial amount of income. It’s also something she is passionate about so I see no harm in it. This in itself will be a great test of my abilities and can be referred back to in future training/projects.

Thirdly, I am starting a part-time job at a local Internet company that requires my marketing knowledge. Compared to my Navy job, I’ll be working less hours but making much more. It feels good to know that the company actually wants me there because of my creativity and knowledge. I always wanted to be able to do more than just a home business.

I just realized I’ve been doing things backwards! Most people go from working at the office to wanting to work from home and yet I’m trying to go from working at home to the office. I mean, it’s nice working from home and it has its perks, but I simply get more work done at an office. When the time comes, I’ll probably just rent a space close by and go there to work.

I’ve made up my mind – that’s what I’ll do.
