Though money is man-made it is much like nature. No one owns it. No one owns the weather we feel, no one owns the water we drink, no one owns the air we breathe and so on.

Do we really? This, too, all has to do with perception. Since ancient history people have spilt their blood to claim land as their own. To prove my point, can you think of why anyone would risk their lives to own a piece of land? It’s because they don’t own it.

Owning land today is made possible through legal paperwork. It then creates a perception in our mind that the land belongs to someone – the land is in someone’s name. Great Britain claimed America to be theirs and we lost many lives to claim it as our own. After many deaths and a binding agreement, America was finally ours. It was a perception the world saw and accepted.

My point is this, money belongs to no one so don’t think you cannot become as wealthy as any other guru you know of. And notice that I never once said being first automatically makes you rich. That’s not always the case and that’s why I say the first will make the biggest impression.

If you are not the first to present a product, or the creator of a product, you must present it to those who have not seen the product. This is made possible through affiliate programs and reseller programs. As an affiliate you earn a small percentage of a sale and as a reseller you make whatever percent the original owner gives you. In most cases, it is a 100% profit for you. So you see, the opportunity is readily available to you even if you were not first in line.

If wealth was made for only those who were first in line, then there would be no such thing as a line. They might benefit before us but it doesn’t mean we won’t benefit anything.

Do you know what a downline is? In network marketing, a downline is your group of followers who you have recruited into a program at different levels both directly and indirectly. These types of programs will say, “if you recruit only 2 people you will be making thousands… because those 2 people will recruit 2 people each and those 4 people will recruit 2 people each (and so on)… and each one of these people will send you a percentage every month.”

Doesn’t that sound like a pyramid scheme?

Well, WAKE UP! Look around you. EVERY business that you could think of is based on a pyramid. Microsoft, Tupperware, Honda, affiliate programs, MLM programs, and everything else is built on the concept of a pyramid. Read that carefully. I said it was a pyramid, not a pyramid scheme.

That is natural, that is life, that is business. You first start with the top, the head honcho, and then trickle down to his executive(s) or manager(s) and then his sales reps and so on.

Most pyramid schemes base their products on memberships to their web site but some also claim they sell “reports.” I don’t know how the same report could be sold to the same customer every month – it doesn’t make sense. Here’s something I haven’t touched base on but would like to emphasize at this time. There is a reason why I refer to my clients as “clients” and not customers. It’s a little something I picked up from Jay Abraham.

When I talk to business owners, I usually refer to their clients as customers because that is how most businesses see them. But now I want you to take a different point of view.

If you’ll look up the word “client” in the dictionay you will find its definition to be: “One that depends on the protection of another.”

Now, if you’ll look up the word “customer” you will find its definition to be: “One that buys goods or services.”

Now ponder on this, would you rather be my client, who I protect, or my customer, who simply purchase goods or services from me? It’s a very simple question that will help you look at your buyers a different way.

We all want to be protected, we all want to be relieved of pain and we all want to know that someone is there to help if we need it. So start thinking of everyone who purchases your products and services as your clients rather than your customers. Remember to respect them and appreciate them; do that and they’ll be your life-time source of income.

You see, while most marketers are only focused on finding new clients or getting more unique visitors to their site, the smart marketers are also consistently working on getting their existing clients to buy more often. And maybe even buy much higher ticket items. It’s the oldest trick in the book.

By building trust between you and your clients they will hold you accountable for everything you send to them. No matter the cost, your customer loyalty will mirror the appreciation you give them.

If you have ten bonus items that have been advertised all over the place and it’s known that they can be bought as a set for next to nothing, and you try to convey they are worth hundreds, not only is there no perceived value in the eye of most readers, but you’ve flushed your credibility down the toilet.

It’s okay to use products that have been around a little while, but only if they are going to hold a high perceived value. But remember, if you have a few products as bonuses like that, there’s a chance many readers of your sales letter could already own all the bonuses, which reduces for them the power of your offer, which in turn will probably lose you the sale.

Possibly the best approach is to seek out some products with low-cost reprint rights that fit in with what you sell, but the key word is SEEK. Don’t go for the things that are already advertised all over the place.

There are some products out there that have not done well because the author has not had a clue how to write a good piece of sales copy or how to promote his or her site. Even if they don’t seem to offer reprint rights – contact them anyway.

Another great idea is to write your own bonus report – that way you have a 100% exclusive.

If you mix something of your own with something that you have rights to and was underexposed and something that might have been around a little, but still holds its value, then you are probably well on your way.

But no matter how you build your sales page, how you construct your bonus items or how you price your product, it needs to convert well. Make sure you’re tracking everything and assess the results to determine what needs to be improved.

Does your product or service provide a solution to their problems?

You have to face one important fact. People make purchases due to wants, not needs. Everyone needs water but there are dozens of name brand water bottles to choose from. Your parents (or significant other) don’t ask you “do you want to eat today,” they usually ask “WHAT do you want to eat to day?”

Many things in life aren’t particularly needed, they’re wanted. You might need a computer for work but do you REALLY need a state of the art $3,000 computer? You might need an alarm clock but do you REALLY need one that plays CD and cassettes AND the radio? No. It’s just your perception and your only justification is that it satisfies your need.

Your product or service doesn’t have to be the best in the world. It just has to have the perceived value that your customers are looking for. If they feel they “need” it, then they will buy it. But the only way they will think they need it, is up to you. You must convince them that this is what they have been looking for and that this is their solution to all their problems.

You see, ALL buyers look for relief or a solution to their problems.

Ask yourself these questions.

• “How can I make money on the Internet?”
• “How can I raise my child to be a good person?”
• “How can I get a date?”
• “How can I read faster?”

Provide a solution to these questions and you will be banking mad cash. As a matter of fact – people have! That’s why we have business opportunities, that’s why we have parenting classes, that’s why we have dating agencies, and that’s why we have reading programs that train you to read faster.

Remember, the value of your product perceived by the customer is what will determine your sales.

My desk sits right next to my bed, which consists of my brand new laptop (had another one but sold it 2 months ago), a 200 GB external hard drive, suround-sound speakers, a head-set w/microphone, a web cam and drawers full of writing utencils and books to read. At the end of my bed is a printer I often use when I make any purchase online (tax purposes). I’ll talk more about this tomorrow.

But with the feedom of your career also comes the challenges. Everyday afterwork, I face the decision of popping in a movie and relax or get back to business so I could continue bringing in the dough. I sometimes compromise with myself and do both at the same time. This might sound like it’s a time management problem but the cold hard fact is it’s a space control problem.

One thing I didn’t mention is the TV and X-box is just on the other side of the room and the remote is on a shelf next to my desk. With it being so convenient, it is now a critical distraction to my business. I still think my work space is next to perfect considering my condition because of the few rules I follow.

Location: I am limited to this very room and this very desk. You might be in the same situation or you may have a little more freedom. You can have a whole ‘nother room as a work space but all you need is a well organized desk. If you do have more freedom than me then choose a comfortable area that will keep you away from distractions.

Equipment: Make a list of all possible accessories you may need for your online business. If you have a business like mine all you really need is a computer – the rest are additional equipment to help facilitate my online business. My external hard drive, for example, is here to backup all my data in case I ever fall into a nasty crash. My web cam is sometimes used for video conferencing or just a training video. My headset is used to record audio in my desktop training videos… so on and so forth. I make sure the things I have on my desk are essentials for my online business.

Personalize: Nothing makes your desk for personal than pictures. I have pictures of my wife and I in as many places as I could. I love her like crazy and I want to show all visitors that I am. I also want to be able to look anywhere and see her whether my eyes are open or closed. Personal touches make you feel more comfortable and relaxed. That’s why if you ever worked at a desk job you’ll see people (maybe even you) have pictures of their family, pets, cars, posters of other things and so on. Though you’re running a business you don’t have to be away from your family.

Clean and Tidy: There’s nothing like starting the day with a clean desk. Try to get in the routine of either cleaning your desk at the end of the day, or doing a 5-minute tidy first thing in the morning. By having a place for everything and everything in its place, it’s easy to stay organized.

Lighting: Don’t skimp on lighting. In addition to creating ambiance in the room, proper lighting keeps you from straining your eyes. I luckily have a desk with a lamp built into it and it suffices my need completely. It’s also fortunate because it doesn’t take up any additional space, which leaves more room for my other accessories.
